Zusammenfassung: | Campanella is a Plato politicus. More than any other Renaissance Platonic thinker, Campanella underscores Platonism's political dimension and his personal blending of metaphysics and politics. However, Campanella faces an inevitable challenge: Machiavelli and his apparent or latent influence on contemporary political practices. To overcome Machiavelli's hegemony, Campanella resorts to a double procedure. First, Campanella connects Machiavelli's project to Aristotle's metaphysics. Then, he reads Machiavelli's pragmatism in the light of his own metaphysics. |
