Zusammenfassung:Reexamination of the Karaite treatise identified by S. Pinsker and others as Sefer ha-Pitron of Jacob Tamani b. Moses (who allegedly died in 958 and was buried in the cemetery of Chufut-Kale) led to the conclusion that there is no reliable evidence for this identification. Moreover, the evidence suggests that this work is a Byzantine Karaite translation of an Arabic original. Thus, it appears that the Hebrew version was created in Byzantium in the latter two-thirds of the eleventh century, based on an eleventh-century Arabic original probably composed in Jerusalem.
