Zusammenfassung: | A pithos of Ghassulian type was discovered during excavations for a water pipe near Khirbet Delhamiyah in the Jordan Valley. At the time some flint implements of the Ghassulian culture were collected: axes, regular fan scrapers, denticulated fan scrapers (a fragment of a denticulated fan scraper is known from Teleilat Ghassul and a complete one from a surface Chalcolithic site in Syria), chisels, etc. All these types are known from the Ghassoulian sites with the exception of the new type of fan scraper with a hole for hafting. The function of the entire group of fan scrapers is unknown. According to Breuil (verbal communication) these scrapers are a kind of "couperet", which could have been for carding wool. A similar scraper was collected for the first time in 1935 by the author in a Chalcolithic site at Gesher Benot Ya'aqov in the Jordan Valley (Fig. 5, on page 94 of the Hebrew section). |
