郝懿行《爾雅義疏》斛正四則 / An Examination of Four Entries from Hao Yixing's "Erya yishu"

郝懿行（1757-1825 )為治《爾雅》之大家，其《爾雅義疏》規模宏大, 乃雅學鉅著，然其中亦不乏可堪商榷之處，今就其書“弔，至也”、 “宜，事也", “蒸，眾也”、“聘，問也”四則訓解，提出異議，並對相關問題，一併探究。 The Erya 爾雅 is one of the most important archaic Chinese thesauri of pre-Han synonyms. A brilliant pleiad of scholars and annotators have attempted to study the Erya, among them Guo Pu 郭撲 (276—324) of the Jin 晉 period (265—420), as well as Shao Jinhan 邵晉涵 (1743—1796) and Hao Yixing 郝懿行 (1757—1825) of the Qing 清 period (1644—1911). Hao Yixing's Erya yishu 爾雅義疏 is one of the most significant commentaries on the Erya. While being detailed and constructive, Hao's commentaries occasionally fail to provide thorough explanations to words and expressions in the Erya. This essay studies four such entries.
