Old Age and Death in the Proverbs and Saying of an Elderly Israeli Male of Austro-Hungarian Origin / זיקנה ומוות בפתגמים ואמירות של ישראלי מבוגר מרקע אוסטרו-הונגרי

מחקרים על זיקנה וזקנים בדיסציפלינות ובגישות שונות עוסקים בדרך כלל במצבם של הזקנים, בהיבטים בחייהם ובקשייהם מנקודת מבט חיצונית להם. המאמר הנוכחי, שהוא חלק ממחקר בתחום הספרות והתרבות העממית, מציג את נקודת מבטו של אדם זקן על זיקנתו ועל תודעת מותו המתקרב. המאמר מציג דיוקן של ישראלי מבוגר מרקע אוסטרו-הונגרי, תוך התמקדות באוצר הפתגמים והאמירות שחזר ואמר לבני משפחתו בערוב ימיו. הפתגמים והאמירות הנדונים במאמר זה עוסקים בשני נושאים: זיקנה ומוות. הפתגמים והאמירות על זיקנה פותחים צוהר לעולמו של האיש ומשקפים את הבעיות המעסיקות אותו. הם מראים כי בזיקנתו הוא מוטרד מבריאותו המתרופפת ויכולותיו הנחלשות, מן הדרך שבה הוא נתפס בעיני סביבתו הקרובה, ממצבו כאלמן, מהתרחקות חלק מקרוביו ומקשיי התקשורת הכרוכים במצב הזיקנה. הפתגמים והאמירות על מוות כלליים יותר ועוסקים לאו דווקא בעולמו של הדובר כי אם בסופיות החיים ובקבלתה, כמו גם בכמה ממרכיבי התרבות של הדובר. בחינת הפואטיקה והמסרים של כלל הפתגמים והאמירות מראה כי באמצעותם מתמודד האיש עם קשיי חייו ועם תודעת מותו המתקרב. Old age and elders research invariably deals with the situation, life components, and hardships of elders from a perspective external to the elders themselves. The present essay, which constitutes part of an inclusive folk narrative and culture study, presents the viewpoint of the old person himself about old age and the notion of imminent death. The essay portrays an elderly Israeli male of Austro-Hungarian origin focusing on the treasure of proverbs and sayings which he repeatedly said to his family in old age. The proverbs and sayings analyzed deal with two themes: old age and death. The proverbs and sayings about old age reflect the hardships he has to deal with. They express the mans preoccupation with his deteriorating health and abilities, anxiety about his surroundings conception of him, widowhood, sorrow at being neglected by some relatives, and awareness of the obstacles of communication inherent in old age. The proverbs and sayings about death are more general, dealing not with the speaker personally, but with the acceptance of mortality and with some aspects of his culture. The examination of the poetics and messages of all these proverbs and sayings shows that through them the old person faces the hardships of old age and the notion of his imminent death.
