Zusammenfassung:The effects of an antimetabolite of vitamin B6, 4-deoxypyridoxine HCl, on the in vitro development of Hymenolepis diminuta (Cestoda: Cyclophyllidea) were observed. A high concentration of deoxypyridoxine in the cultivation medium (400 μ M initial concentration in balanced salt solution overlay) completely inhibited growth and reproduction by the tapeworm, and the inhibition was entirely reversed by the presence of equimolar pyridoxine. The results strongly support the thesis that H. diminuta has a direct nutritional requirement for an external source of vitamin B6.
