Zusammenfassung:In 1582 Pedro González wrote a short Latin autobiography. That is hardly surprising at the time of the triumphant Renaissance – except that this man was originally a ‘savage’: he was born around 1537 in the Canary Islands, then scarcely distinguished from America, so that the Canary Islanders, confused with the Indians, were still regarded as belonging to an inferior type of humanity. Additionally, his physical appearance made Pedro look less man than beast: he was hairy, and it was probably as a natural curiosity that he was given to King Henry II of France at the age of 10.
