Zusammenfassung: | Susan attended Kings College London from 1954 to 1957, where she read physics. She then worked for the North Thames Gas Board as a physicist for two and half years. Later she was heard to confess that the reason she left this line of employment was that she was “a lousy physicist”. She then transferred her efforts to British Petroleum in their geophysical exploration department where she looked after records. To some extent this was the genesis of her interest in geology. Between these two jobs, she had travelled in Greece and Turkey, which kindled an interest in archaeology.
