Miscellaneous Newspaper Clippings, 1838

These newspaper clippings pertain to John Mason Jr. (1797–1849) becoming the special Cherokee agent for Andrew Jackson in 1837.¹ Mason reported that four thousand Cherokees, including women and children, had attended Council meeting at Red Clay, Tennessee, but more would have been present if it were not for the prevalence of dysentery among many Cherokees.
