I was given permission to hire an assistant and chose Roman Kummer, a German prisoner. Abram Kreker, who I mentioned earlier, was responsible for the logistics and administrative aspects of the lab’s operation. At the beginning, the building was empty, but slowly, with Kreker’s help, we outfitted it with the minimum required equipment. We had to do everything with our own hands.
