Viatka’s 1917 Revolution in the Past and the Present

ISTPART’S BRANCH IN VIATKA PLANNED for an extensive celebration of the tenth anniversary of the 1917 revolution. Its campaign quickly ran afoul of Moscow’s ambition for the great event when Viatka insisted on the party’s relatively modest achievements in the province in 1917. A nasty personal and professional conflict erupted between Istpart’s leadership in Viatka and two of the region’s own revolutionaries, now ensconced in Moscow, over how best to remember that past.
