The stratigraphy presented above (see Chapter 4) provides a chronological basis for the dating of the areas from both within and outside the city. The structure of each of the excavation areas is a major factor in the broad diversity displayed among the finds. Area A is primarily domestic; Areas B and C, near the southern city gate, have both commercial and residential facilities, and Area D contains housing and workshops.
