The percentage of sherds saved at the time of excavation is not known; since then some have disappeared or become separated from their fellows. The vast bulk of the pottery found in Tiberias was produced locally and little was imported from any great distance. However, decorative techniques employed on imported wares, particularly those from Egypt, were quickly copied and were influential in the development of locally produced pottery. Tiberias had a
