As we acknowledge that the merits of the saints are inscribed in the book of life² and their memorial is before the Lord³ forever, we indeed consider it most beneficial that something be preserved in writing from the life and deeds of virtuous people as an example for the generation of their descendants. They have fought faithfully for the sake of Christ and in reward for this fight have been blessedly crowned.
