Zusammenfassung: | The current IAA archaeological excavations at the Naḥal Tanninim Dam were undertaken in order to find a solution to the problem of the inadequate drainage of Naḥal Tanninim and Naḥal ‘Ada. This became particularly acute in the winter of 1992, when a critical transportation artery (Highway 2) and agricultural land in the southern Carmel coastal region were severely flooded. Thus, it was deemed imperative to facilitate the transfer of large quantities of floodwater through the ancient man-made barrier created by the building of the dam, by opening up the original passageways and by controlled widening of the modern breaches.
