Introduction

The purpose of this book is to present, in as robust a fashion as possible, the scholarly work that Sam See had completed at the time of his death in 2013. The strong ongoing interest taken in See’s work may be measured, in one way, by the panel devoted to his scholarship at the annual conference of the Modernist Studies Association in 2015, where a discussion was convened under the title “The Futures of Queer Modernist Studies: Reading Sam See’s Writings,” organized by Scott Herring and Wendy Moffat, chaired by Heather Love, and featuring as speakers Benjamin Kahan, Kate Marshall,
