Zusammenfassung:Generalkommissariat (Gk) Shitomir was a German administrative unit carved out of the pre-war Soviet Vinnitsa, Zhitomir, Poles’e, and Gomel’ oblasts. The period of ghettoization in Gk Shitomir lasted from July 1941 until the spring of 1942. In total, there were some 58 ghettos established in Gk Shitomir. The last ghettos, mainly remnant ghettos that resembled forced labor camps, were liquidated in the winter of 1942–1943, although small groups of specialist workers survived in some places until later in 1943. In 1939, the Zhitomir oblast’ contained 125,007 Jews, and the Vinnitsa oblast’ had 141,825 Jews, of which just over half
