Zusammenfassung: | Three methods of making aluminium soaps are described, and one, the 'metathetic reaction between a sodium soap solution and an aluminium salt solution, is discussed in detail. The effect of variations in manufacturing technique upon the gelling characteristics of the product is considered. Recent work by various investigators on the structure of aluminium soaps is reviewed, particularly in relation to the effect of structure and peptizers upon the gelling property in hydrocarbon solvents. Mention is made of the more important methods of moisture determination and results obtained by the use of the Karl Fischer reagent are quoted. |
