Zusammenfassung:The membrane based assemblies that support gas diffusion electrodes in particular are at the heart of hydrogen fuel cells. The strategy of employing a membrane assembly with supported electrocatalysts can be extended to design photocatalytic membranes. The ion exchange property of a cation exchange membrane, Nafion, can be used to embed semiconductor nanoparticles (e.g., CdS, AgInS 2 ). Similarly, bipolar membrane (BPM) can be employed to load the semiconductor photocatalyst on one side and metal electrocatalyst on the other side. The photocatalytic semiconductor/metal membrane between the two compartments of an H-cell, serves the dual purpose of generating hydrogen while separating the oxidation and reduction products. The talk will focus on preparing photocatalytic membrane and their effectiveness in solar fuel production.
