Severe Thrombocytopenia in Mixed Connective Tissue Disease

Thrombocytopenia has rarely been reported in mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). We observed two patients with MCTD and severe thrombocytopenia, necessitating splenectomy in one, while both patients were treated with corticosteroids. This is another, less favourable, feature of adult MCTD.
