Transplantation of hypopharynx in the same block together with larynx makes reconstruction of the pharynx easier. 5. Infusion of the donor dog's blood into the recipient helps the animal to survive the opsration. 6. The separate tracheostoma keeps the pharyngeal secretions out of the trachea and lungs, thus protecting them from infection. The idea of suturing th: caudal opening of the transplanted specimen aside from the midline serves the same purpose.
