Zusammenfassung:Stress concentration factors adjacent to the rubbery particles in high-impact polystyrene have been computed and have been used with general stress criteria for both craze nucleation and plastic flow to predict the onset of crazing and plastic flow adjacent to the particles when the sample as a whole is tested under biaxial states of stress between uniaxial tension and uniaxial compression. The theoretical predictions have been compared with experimental results obtained on a range of polystyrene-rubber blends. For samples containing a sufficiently low volume fraction of rubbery particles the experimentally-determined crazing stresses fall within the limits predicted by the theoretical analysis.
