A gauge model of amorphous solids containing defects II. Chern-Simons free energy

Continuum line defects are modelled by a theory of SO(3) connections in the orthonormal frame bundle over the body manifold of a solid. Variations of the Chern-Simons free-energy integral lead to spaces of constant curvature and constant torsion as equilibrium configurations.
