Zusammenfassung:This note takes a communication studies perspective on the e-mail interactions between students and faculty, and argues that e-mail messages may be a significant force in academic development for several reasons. E-mail interactions may be the medium of choice for some persons, may constitute a relationship, and may represent an important form of international and intercultural dialogue. The essay is organized around five communication topics: apprehension, diversity, face-to-face communication, humour, and tone.
