Concept of rf current drive system for volumetric neutron source on the tokamak basis

The paper examines the possibility of the current drive (CD) and electron heating in the Volumetric Neutron Source (VNS) (tokamak with high neutron flux) by means of Lower Hybrid Waves (LHW), Ion Bernstein Waves (IBW) and Fast Magneto-Sonic Waves (FMSW). According to our 3D ray-tracing calculations,...

Zusammenfassung:The paper examines the possibility of the current drive (CD) and electron heating in the Volumetric Neutron Source (VNS) (tokamak with high neutron flux) by means of Lower Hybrid Waves (LHW), Ion Bernstein Waves (IBW) and Fast Magneto-Sonic Waves (FMSW). According to our 3D ray-tracing calculations, FMS waves turned out to be the most suitable for the stated goals. The antenna system (f = 200 MHz) may be executed as a compact module 50 cm × 75 cm. FMS CD efficiency in the VNS can be I/P = 0.12 ÷ 0.17 A/W depending on initial plasma parameters. The concept of FMS CD system design is also proposed in the paper.
