2-Formylimidazole as Substrate in Baylis-Hillman Reactions: Synthesis of a β-Substituted Acrylate

2-Formylimidazole forms mainly a disubstituted product on reaction with methylacrylate and DABCO. This product rearranges on warming to afford a novel β-substituted acrylate ester.
