Synthesis of Mercaptoacetonitrile and Cyanomethyl Thioesters

Mercaptoacetonitrile can be prepared from sodium trithiocarbonate and chloroacetonitrile in 75% yield. Mercaptoacetonitrile was reacted with acyl chlorides to prepare a series of cyanomethyl thioesters.
