Zusammenfassung: | Would you expect to find major differences in their houses, dress, or preferred means of entertainment (other than those resulting from regional differences in the pattern of cultural adaptation to local environmental conditions such as insulation, the type of clothing worn, or such recreational preferences as skiing vs. surfing)? In teaching, you will begin to use basic cultural concepts, including: differing roles of technology and resource perception; patterns of culture trait origin and diffusion, including the essential elements of accessibility vs. isolation; culture history will become increasingly important, as will cultural integration, or the way in which one culture trait influences others; and both culture regions and cultural landscapes will be key pins to understanding. In explaining nature-culture relationships, cultureincluding resource perceptions and use patterns, technology, aspirations, knowledge, and other cultural factors-serves as the active agent in the causeeffect (inter)action between humans and the natural environment. 2. [...]even these "limitations" are much more a function of inadequate capital or technological resources, than they are of the environmental conditions. |
