Poling of tetragonal KNbO3 single crystals by thermal gradient and light

The domain structure of the tetragonal and orthorhombic phases of insulating KNbO 3 single crystals has been studied. The influence of orientation, thermal gradients and of the wavelength of absorbed light on the phase boundaries during the phase transitions is discussed.
