Zusammenfassung:The results of a manometric follow-up study of 10 patients treated by diverticulectomy for pharyngooesophageal diverticula are published. Compared with normals, these patients showed no difference in the length and resting pressure of the pharyngo-oesophageal sphincter. The changes in pressure in the pharynx and sphincter area induced by swallowing were also normal, in strength as well as in sequence. It is concluded that a hypertensive or abnormally functioning pharyngo-oesophageal sphincteris is not a common pathogenetic factor in pharyngo-oesophageal diverticula.
