Zusammenfassung:Hyperextension of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint may be congenital or result from an injury to the volar ligamentary system. The usual complaints are local pain, joint instability and weakness of the pinch and grip. The present paper describes a simple method of correcting this instability by using a palmaris longus-tenodesis as a hyperextension checkrein for the joint.
