DNA Breaks in Coliphage T7 after Irradiation with Argon Nuclei

Summary Coliphage T7 was irradiated by atomic nuclei accelerated in the heavy ion linear accelerator at the University of California. Plaque-forming ability was measured after irradiation, using a number of different nuclei. The ultra-violet absorption of isolated phage DNA was measured in an analytical ultracentrifuge and was used to measure the proportion of double-and single strand breaks in the DNA.
