Zusammenfassung: | Mastitis is an economically important disease of small ruminants which is prone to become gangrenous and may even endanger the life of the animal. The antibiotic sensitivity patterns in clinical and sub clinical caprine mastitis were compared with 12 treatment results after administration of a broad spectrum antibiotic, ceftriaxone at a dose rate of 10 mg/kg for 5 days. Staphylococcus aureuswas the most common isolate. Although S. aureus isolates showed 97% sensitivity to ceftriaxone in vitro, the in vivo results of the treatment trial was different. Clinical cure was only 58.33% and bacteriological cure was 50%. |
