Energy transfer processes related to the S-band transition in Tm3+ doped silica fibres

An energy transfer up-conversion process is observed in thulium-doped alumino-silicate fibres for Tm2O3 concentrations as low as 35 ppm-mol. This important mechanism to the 1470-nm gain band efficiency is studied with a simple model. (2 pages)
