Zusammenfassung:An overview is provided of the authors' past and current research on vehicle-borne location and map display systems. Possible future research directions in the broader area of vehicle information systems are also outlined. Current research is directed toward the presentation of information to a driver to help in following a selected route to a desired destination. It is noted that the development of viable new products in the area of vehicle information systems will require thorough understanding of human needs, capabilities, and limitations, as well as mastery of the underlying technology. The basic goal of the current program is to optimize the human-machine interface of a route guidance system by developing effective displays and controls, thereby maximizing utility and ease of use while minimizing potential driver distraction.< >
