Interstitial applicators for microwave hyperthermia
Using microscopic techniques the authors fabricated interstitial hyperthermia applicators having diameters of 0.20, 0.33 and 0.58 mm, which will fit through catheters of 30, 26 and 22 gauge, respectively. Existing commercial applicators having a diameter of 1.1 mm require 17-gauge catheters. The aut...

Zusammenfassung: | Using microscopic techniques the authors fabricated interstitial hyperthermia applicators having diameters of 0.20, 0.33 and 0.58 mm, which will fit through catheters of 30, 26 and 22 gauge, respectively. Existing commercial applicators having a diameter of 1.1 mm require 17-gauge catheters. The authors determine the energy deposition patterns (specific absorption rate) from measurements of the electric field intensity using a miniature (3-mm-diameter) implantable electric field probe. These miniature applicators exhibit heating patterns comparable to those of larger applicators having similar design.< > |
