Zusammenfassung: | Over the past decade research and clinical applications of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) have expanded greatly. These advances have depended on improvements in technology, in the models used to understand TMS biophysics, and in our understanding of TMS neurophysiology. Single-pulse TMS has been used extensively in studying motor and visual systems. Rapid, repetitive TMS (rTMS) has more powerful effects on cognitive function including speech, attention, and memory, but introduces the risk of provoking epileptic seizures in normal subjects. The paper reviews recent progress in TMS. |
