Zusammenfassung:Reflux of gastric contents into the lower portion of the esophagus is believed to be a primary event in the pathogenesis of peptic esophagitis. Study of this condition has been made difficult because most diagnostic methods allow only a brief time interval for analysis and then under far less than physiologic conditions. We report the initial experience with a portable continuous intraesophageal pH monitor. The device is capable of full day recordings under more physiologic conditions. This report discusses the device and the software support which provides rapid analysis of the collected pH data.
