Zusammenfassung: | Nowadays, wireless networks are commonly used to access Internet via stationary or mobile devices due to its convenience and mobility. In addition, more and more users watch TV/video via wireless networks. As a result, Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) technologies, such as WiMAX, with high transmission rates and a wide transmission range are developed. In WiMAX networks, a tradeoff between video quality and video transmission efficiency exists for video multicast due to the usage of Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) technology and thus ISPs could have different transmission mechanisms of video traffic based on the importance of video quality. Some ISPs would give higher importance to video quality, but some ISPs would give higher importance to video transmission efficiency. To meet the requirements of ISPs, this paper proposes a scheme, called Weight-based Video Multicast (WBVM), to transmit video based on the importance of video quality. From simulation results, it is shown that the proposed scheme is able to improve either video quality or video transmission efficiency based on the importance of video quality. |
