Assumptions on the characteristic parameter of the coaxial ferrite waveguide phase shifter and its application

Zusammenfassung: | The notion characteristic parameter λ=λ(ρ, r̅ 0 , |α|) of the azimuthally magnetized coaxial ferrite waveguide phase shifter, operating in the normal TE 01 mode, is introduced by the relation λ = Δβ̅r̅ 0 /|α| in which Δβ̅= Δβ̅(ρ, r̅ 0 , |α|) is the normalized differential phase shift produced by the device, r̅ 0 is its normalized outer radius, α is the off-diagonal permeability tensor element of the anisotropic load and ρ is the relative thickness of the central switching conductor (λ, Δβ̅, ρ, r̅ 0 , |α| - real, positive). A numerical analysis is performed of the dependence of λ on ρ, r̅ 0 and |α|, the results of which are plotted graphically. Based on them three statements for the novel quantity and its application are formulated: i) assumption for independence of λ on certain of the parameters of phase shifter; ii) assumption on the choice of a value of λ to be used in the calculation of Δβ̅ provided at a given operational state of a set-up with a chosen ρ and iii) assumption for the numerical equivalent of the error in figuring the phase shift through the characteristic parameter. Hypothesis i) is the principle one and reveals the properties of quantity λ, while ii) and iii) are its corollaries and express the main idea of an approximate method for counting up Δβ̅ and determine the magnitude of its intrinsic error, resp. Illustrative examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approach. |
