Zusammenfassung:Cosmetic therapy can improve quality of life (QOL) in elderly people. While qualitative observations have shown that cosmetic therapy enhances the expressive and communicative abilities of elderly people, there is relatively little quantitative data regarding the effect of cosmetic therapy. Therefore, this study evaluated the effects of cosmetic therapy on brain activity using measures of electroencephalogram (EEG) pattern abnormalities, including Diagnosis Method of Neuronal Dysfunction (DIMENSION), Neuronal Activity Topography (NAT) and Power Variance Function (PVF). Subjects comprised 43 elderly women living in homes for the elderly. Analysis showed that cosmetic therapy normalized the electrical distribution on the scalp and decreased the size of regions with abnormal fluctuations. These findings support the use of cosmetic therapy to improve QOL.
