Zusammenfassung: | Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONS) are a low-cost high-speed broadband access solutions for today's bandwidth hungry applications. While, downstream transmission in broadcast, upstream poses many a problems. The most critical challenge is to be able to allocate bandwidth among contending users while keeping starvation down and giving everyone a chance to transmit if they want. In this paper, we attempt to take forward work done by Byungjoo Park et al. (2008) in presenting EFDBA - dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm. EFDBA fairly allocates bandwidth to users but, in our view, also wastes some time slots since the allocation units are not granular. We have presented a ratio counter based approach that ensures minimum wastage of bandwidth. The basic idea is to divide the available bandwidth pieces equal to the minimum requirement from any ONU. This approach leads to many benefits as presented in later sections of the paper. In the end we present a comparison of RC-DBA with EFDBA along with results of our simulation. |
