Phase-sensitive near-field study of surface plasmon polaritons launched by chains of subwavelength holes in gold films

A chain of subwavelength sized holes in a gold film is used to launch surface plasmon polaritons. We investigate how the field pattern close to the chain evolves into diffraction orders in the far field. SPP are a powerful tool in the quest to build optical components at the nanoscale.
