Study on the urbanization area expansion monitoring of Jiaozuo using Landsat images

The boundary and acreages of urbanization area of Jiaozuo city are obtained respectively from the three-stage Landsat images of 1988, 1992 and 2001. The results of urbanization area expansion are acquired and compared by means of GIS overlaying analysis, which shows that the city of Jiaozuo had started a fast development since 1992, and the urban area expanded quickly towards the new hi-tech zone, the spatial expansion of Jiaozuo urbanization area has a special ldquoTrdquo configuration. That is to say that the expansion is mainly toward the south and moderately toward the east or the west, because it is blocked off by the northward Taihang Mountains and the coal mining area in the east-west.
