Zusammenfassung: | Delivering RSS news feeds to clients is a simple technology, but it results in great amount of news duplication. Tests show that in ordinary situations the duplication rate can approach 99% of the delivered news items. This duplication is the result of the pull-style delivering mechanism used to transmit the news from the server to the clients. Using a different type of delivery mechanism, i.e. push, we achieve a system that is free of duplication. In this paper, we present a service that uses SIP and its specific event notifications extension to deliver the RSS feed information to the clients. Our system does not require changes to existing news providing services. We present a new proxy and client software for a mobile device that can introduce huge bandwidth and energy savings, a critical feature for any mobile service. |
