Database retrieval techniques

The application of database technologies in education, commerce and industry, continues to grow at an unrelenting pace. Examples of such applications include GIS, CAD, Bibliographic databases, Management Information Systems, Multimedia, and so forth. Relational databases have found a wide application and now the more recent object-orientated database methodologies are finding increased application. Issues relating to database technology include: storage management; representation of information types, particularly in multimedia; data models; indexing strategies; query processing; query languages and user-intermediary systems. This three-paper session considers some of these issues in relation to database storage management and retrieval techniques.< >
