Zusammenfassung:Three postulates of technology development and information exchange (technology transfer) are proposed in order to achieve competitive returns on investments in R&D. (1) Any allocation of funds for R&D must also include a commitment for resources to disseminate the most critical and pertinent information in a rapid and systematic fashion. (2) Prior to any expenditure for R&D, an organization must identify and leverage the resources of government, universities, and professional and industrial societies-with the view that each is a strategic supplier. (3) The intellectual and technological results of R&D are long-term assets that must be managed collectively on a regular basis. The obstacles to implementing a successful program of technology development and information exchange are discussed.< >
