Zusammenfassung:Spatial solitons are self-trapped beams that are formed in electrically pumped semiconductor optical amplifiers under conditions for which diffraction is balanced by nonlinearity and gain is balanced by loss. They can be used as re-writable waveguides for communications signals. We will discuss the excitation of such solitons at 10's mW power levels in AlGaAs multiquantum well amplifiers and the measurement of their unique properties. Excellent agreement with theory was obtained.
