Buried Single-Mode Waveguides in Glass

Buried planar single-mode waveguides can be fabricated in glass by electromigration of ions from a low temperature molten mixture of nitrates. Surface scattering is reduced and high efficiency planar catadioptric elements are demonstrated to be feasible.
