The Effect of Carrier Phase and Timing on a Single-Sideband Data Signal

Zusammenfassung: | Considering the recovery of carrier phase and timing for optimum detection of a single-sideband data signal, a relation is derived for simultaneous optimum setting of these parameters. To find the optimum settings, it is shown that the mean-square error (MSE) of the demodulated signal, defined as the sum of the squared deviations of the received signal from the nearest possible level of an undistorted signal, is a useful measure of carrier phase and timing errors only near the optimum settings, so that a rough estimate of both carrier phase and timing must be available at the receiver. |
